CSB’s Marianna Koval Discusses Rebuilding a Stronger and More Equitable NYC in a joint event with NYU Wagner
—
CSB Director of Invest NYC SDG Initiative, Marianna Koval, spoke on the opening panel discussion of NYU Wagner’s NYC 2025: Road to Recovery Series.
NYC 2025 gathers experts from many areas such as transportation, sustainable mobility, and economic mobility to have meaningful conversations about building New York City (NYC) back as a stronger and more equitable city than it was before COVID-19. Koval—alongside other experts from the City University of New York, the NYU Rudin Center for Transportation, and more—addressed policy proposals that would push economic development in NYC toward a fairer future for all.
Koval highlighted CSB’s Invest NYC SDG Initiative, saying, “As we look to create NYC’s road to recovery, let it be a road to the future with sustainable development. That means economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection. Balancing these three elements and placing racial equity and justice at the center is our task, and a powerful framework exists,” in reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
“Business has embraced sustainability and the UN SDGs,” said Koval, recommending the next Mayor make the private sector a true partner when developing the new sustainability agenda for 2023 in addition to taking inspiration from the Biden Administration by embedding sustainability into every government agency throughout the city.
