Dean Peter Henry welcomed James M. Cracchiolo, BS ‘80, MBA ‘85, back to campus on Monday, October 10, to discuss his experience as the Chairman and CEO of Ameriprise Financial, Inc. Stern alumni, students, and faculty attended the C-Suite Speaker Series event, during which Mr. Cracchiolo shared his insights and addressed questions from Matthew P. Richardson, Professor of Applied Economics.
Mr. Cracchiolo has had a dynamic career to date; his resume boasts nearly every combination of executive title and his legacy reflects strong shareholder value on a global level. He’s held his current role as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ameriprise Financial since the firm completed its spin-off from the American Express Company in 2005.
During the event, he shared stories of decision-making and rebuilding businesses throughout his career, and discussed his experience holding leadership roles through the financial crisis. He cited integrity and community as some of the core values that cultivated client trust and set Ameriprise apart through difficult times. “We’re all driven to succeed - but we have to succeed in the right way,” said Mr. Cracchiolo, whose career is a testament to the value of doing well and doing good.
