Thousands of Alumni and Students Join the Online Networking Platform, Stern Network
—
Providing ways for Stern students and alumni to connect with each other for career insights and to stay involved with the School is a key priority at NYU Stern. That was the driving force behind Stern Network, an online networking and mentorship platform that launched in May of 2020, and so far over 12,000 users have activated their accounts, including more than 8,000 Stern alumni.
The School worked with the Alumni Council’s Digital Connections committee headed up by Tony Watkins (MBA ’11), Head of Search, Global Partnerships, at Google, along with Nick Humphries (MBA ’12), Strategy & Operations Lead, Google News Initiative, at Google, on Stern Network.
“It was exciting to be part of helping shape a digital platform that makes it easier for students and alumni to connect and gives alumni a chance to form online communities through the Alumni Groups,” said Watkins. “I am happy to see that so many alumni have joined so far.”
Stern Network is not only a way for alumni to stay connected to each other, but is a resource for students to tap into. The School moved up the launch date for Stern Network by several months in 2020 in order to provide another career support resource for students during the pandemic. Once it launched, thousands of alumni joined the new platform.
Stern Network Features A Variety of Affinity, Industry and Regional Alumni Groups
In addition to being a platform for students and alumni to connect, Stern Network is a way for alumni to connect with each other through the 63 alumni groups. The groups host events, offer a discussion board, and share resources. Stern Network features affinity groups such as Food and Wine, which hosted a cooking lesson with Accounting Professor Julian Yeo (@yeocancook) and a Black and Latino group, and industry groups such as Entertainment, Media and Technology to name a few. There also are 51 regional and international groups, so alumni have a chance to connect for regional programs or happy hours in their own cities. Alumni and students on Stern Network represent 48 states in the US and 89 countries globally.
Stern Network Now Features an Alumni Business Directory
The Business Directory is the latest feature to be added to Stern Network, the online networking and mentorship platform. Stern students and alumni can now list their company or highlight their services.
