Interacting with Government Officials and Candidates for Elected Office

The University maintains a policy governing the Interactions with Government Officials and Candidates For Elected Office. Because NYU is required to register as a lobbyist at the federal, state, and city level, we must adhere to various regulations that apply to our relationships with government officials. NYU's policy outlines certain prohibited activity (such as political campaign activities), activity that must be disclosed to NYU Government Affairs before proceeding (such as inviting officials to campus, providing NYU space to government officials, or attempts to influence legislation or agency actions), and activity that is permitted without requiring approval (such as government-invited expert testimony and communication on grants).
