Important Emergency Procedures
As a reminder, here are some general guidelines:
Never put yourself in harm's way. Only take the following actions if it is safe to do so.
Don't assume someone else is going to call for help. Take action - it is better that more people call than no one at all.
For situations that are life threatening or potentially life threatening, if you are able to do so safely, 911 should be your first call. Even if you are unsure if a situation is life threatening, err on the side of caution. 911 operators can help determine the type of help needed.
Next, call NYU Campus Safety (212) 998-2222. They should be called after 911 to alert them of the situation so that they can direct help to the appropriate location within our buildings. They should also be called for situations that don't rise to the level of a 911 emergency.
Lastly, send an email to alert@stern.nyu.edu. Be sure to include pertinent details, such as: type of emergency, who has already been notified, exact location and whether it is on-going. This will serve as an alert to our Stern team that there is an emergency and that additional help may be needed.
