Courses
Beginning in Fall 2024, NYU Stern will offer an undergraduate course, taught by Professor Richardson and Adjunct Professor Dan Kamensky, titled Restructuring and Distressed Investing. The goal of the course is to teach students the practical financial, credit and legal skills necessary to understand and analyze corporate credit, how companies navigate out-of-court and in-court restructurings, and the tactics and strategies of the various players in the restructuring process. The course is separated into three parts. The first part surveys the leveraged debt market, and, more specifically, financial distress and insolvency (the left and right side of the balance sheet). The second part of the course focuses on distressed investing, covering valuation, the firm’s capital structure, bond indentures and other related topics. The third part utilizes the case study approach to illustrate the concepts presented with guest lectures from notable industry professionals to present real-life, real-time examples of actual companies.
