Every Stern senior completes the NYC Consulting Capstone, a full course devoted to experiential learning. As part of the capstone, students work directly with corporate partners and gain real-world experience.
Because of that real-world context, students in the course may encounter confidential information and, as a result, are often asked to sign NDAs with the companies they’re working with.
The Learning Science Lab worked with NYU Stern’s experiential education team to develop a module that could introduce students to what they needed to know before signing an NDA and ensure they do not inadvertently break it.
Originally conceived of as a series of video scenarios, the team’s first step was to step back: What were the needs of the students? How did the content support the larger capstone, how much time could students devote to it, and what were the key learning objectives that mattered in this specific context?
The resulting approach was an interactive primer that established more foundational knowledge for students before presenting them with a condensed version of the original scenarios, scoped to highlight the most important takeaways specifically for the NYU Consulting Capstone.
