Global Immersion Experience
The Global Immersion Experience (GIE) is an integral component of our core curriculum. Designed to deliver a sophisticated view of world business through on-the-ground intellectual and cultural immersion in regional markets, destinations from Latin America to the Middle East and Asia are carefully selected by Stern faculty and administration with a focus on relevant business trends and current events.
Each cohort embarks on this immersive one-week international residency as a requirement in the core curriculum during the first year of the program. While abroad, you will participate in meetings and in-depth discussions with leaders of industry, financial institutions and government organizations.
Students have the option in Year 2 to participate in another GIE as an elective, allowing them to compare different dynamic contemporary market economies.

Frequently Asked Questions
Global Immersion Experience (GIE) destinations are determined by NYU Stern EMBA faculty and the EMBA leadership team based on several important considerations such as business contacts, health and safety, relevance to EMBA Faculty and coursework etc.
These 1-week immersion experiences are graded, for-credit courses, led by an NYU Stern instructor, who is on the ground/in-market with students throughout the GIE program.
Each GIE typically consists of meetings and discussions with an array of speakers (business professionals, government figures, academics), site visits, company visits, networking events, and cultural activities designed specifically for each EMBA class. Students can expect to be with the group the majority of each day. Most evenings are free for students to enjoy on their own.
GIE program activities are arranged and paid for by the Executive MBA Program, with the following exceptions:
- International airfare (at the start and end of the program)
- Dinners on your own
- Any required visas and passport fees
- Airport transfers
- Any incidental expenses incurred during your time abroad
