Mohammed was fairly new in his position as head of risk management for Saudi Arabia’s Jadwa Investment when he entered NYU Stern’s Master’s in Risk Management program. During the course of the year, his skill set and knowledge of his chosen field grew as he spent more time in his job—a perfect situation. “Thanks to Stern, I have already gained by being ahead of the curve in risk management, as I now have the ability to manage risk from a broad systemic and strategic perspective with a focus on enterprise-wide risk management,” he says.

“Understanding the discipline behind the application of analytics and how different it is from traditional analysis.” That’s how Lara sums up the value she took from her Master of Science in Business Analytics degree at Stern.  More practically, she adds, the skill set she acquired during the program is “absolutely central” to what she does as Executive Director, Hospitality Analytics, for Las Vegas-based MGM Resorts International.

Alejandro had a specific goal in mind when he applied to Stern’s Master of Science in Risk Management program. Even though he was already an experienced professional with many articles to his name, Alejandro explained, “I wanted to have the opportunity to think deeper about risk management concepts and surround myself with the best professors in this area.”
 

Tahir Awan

In  2013, Tahir Awan started an entrepreneurial adventure by launching an IT consultancy firm called MSCS, Inc. He was able to secure work through his reputation within his existing network of contacts but quickly realized that his venture required a solid business plan and a longer term strategy. With the motivation to pursue an MBA, Tahir started to research programs and found that the highly experienced Executive MBA cohort at Stern could contribute some of the insights he needed to run a business.

Ernesto Ordonez, MS ‘73/PhD ’76

“NYU Stern gave me the gift of a management education,” says Dr. Ernesto Ordonez, MS ‘73/PhD ’76. “My gift to Stern is using that knowledge to promote and implement change.”
 
Dr. Ordonez has built a dynamic career helping others, specifically those in his native country, the Philippines. As the president of the Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines, Ordonez transformed the historically high-pollutant cement industry into a sustainable model, beating 32 industry sectors to win the Golden Hall of Fame Award for sustainable development.
 

Alex K. Dontoh

Biography

Alex Dontoh is a Professor of Accounting at the Stern School of Business, New York University. He is the Deputy Chair of the Department of Accounting. Professor Dontoh holds a Ph.D. from New York University, an M.B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.Sc. in Business administration from the University of Ghana.

Ajay Maindiratta

Ajay Maindiratta is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Stern School of Business, New York University. He holds a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy Analysis from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh.

Professor Maindiratta's research interests include Production analysis and productivity measurement; Cost management, performance evaluation and management control; Information economics and agency theory; and Environmental management accounting.

Biography

James Ohlson returned to New York University Stern School of Business as a Professor of Accounting in July 2008. He was a member of the NYU Stern Faculty from 1998 to 2004 and spent four years at Arizona State University as a W.P. Carey Professor of Accounting between his Stern appointments.
