Celebrating a Unique Journey

A crowd of over 5,000 people gathered at the Theater at Madison Square Garden to celebrate the class of 2015 at the NYU Stern Undergraduate College’s annual Baccalaureate Ceremony.
Undergraduate College Dean Geeta Menon delivered the opening and closing remarks. She recognized all graduates for their creativity, humanity and collaborative spirit. Dean Menon also reflected on the students’ experiences at Stern, and encouraged them use their education to continue making positive, impactful changes in the world.
“Class of 2015 - today, we say goodbye to you as students, but we welcome you as members of the Stern alumni community,” said Dean Menon. “And I hope that you will come back to Stern often! I see excitement and optimism in you as you embrace the endless possibilities that lie ahead and begin this new chapter in your lives.”
Jonathan Bach (BS ’15), the winner of this year’s student speaker competition, shared some of his favorite Stern memories, and encouraged his classmates to continue to challenge themselves as they move on to new experiences.
“Our largest successes rose from the moments when we pushed past our boundaries, ran away from the familiar, and took risks – when we were okay with failure for the sake of experiencing something new,” said Bach, who graduated with a double concentration in finance and management.
“As we write the conclusion to our undergraduate story, I hope you make this a part of your mindset, your code, and your lifestyle: to embrace the unfamiliar, and to chase the uncomfortable.”
The distinguished speaker at this year’s Baccalaureate Ceremony was Peter Morton, who co-founded the Hard Rock Café in London in 1971. Today, the rock-and-roll themed casual dining restaurant chain has over 192 locations in 60 countries, including hotels, casinos, and live music venues. Morton shared important lessons from his business career, and encouraged students to follow their instincts and use their educational experiences to carve out their own unique paths.
