On February 26th, 2021, NYU’s Law, Wagner School of Public Policy, and Stern School of Business will host the annual Social Innovation Symposium. Experts from an array of industries and backgrounds will come together to inspire a new generation of change-makers.

Excerpt from Executive Courses-- “Close by is New York University’s Stern School of Business, another top executive education provider. It puts on the Finance and Accounting for Non-Finance Executives program. Participants gain an understanding of how basic accounting information is used to communicate with financial managers and to assess a firm’s value and future prospects. It also covers pitfalls in financial decision making including psychological biases in the field of behavioral finance.”

Excerpt from CNBC-- "The American Recovery Act is currently being debated fiercely inside and outside the halls of Congress and one of the topics which has been under much discussion is the extent to which given that we are now below full employment and we have an output gap, given the numbers that are being debated presently in the American Recovery Act and what the implications would be for the increase in GDP that we would see as a result of these fiscal measures, what do you and your colleagues see in terms of the size of the gap we currently have in the economy at present relative to the increase in GDP that would bring us closer to the full-employment level of output, given the numbers that are being thrown around?"

Excerpt from The New York Times-- “Ms. Daly said Mr. Gamble had made a 'material change' at her Fed. And improving is a priority because, as she puts it, ‘policymaking reflects those around the table.’ Mr. Gamble is now in a predoctoral program at New York University. Mentors who helped him along the way, including Lisa Cook at Michigan State University, Ms. Daly at the Fed and now Peter Blair Henry — a leading Black economist whom he is working with at N.Y.U. — were critical links in the chain that is leading him to a Ph.D. His story suggests that diversifying is a matter of tearing down structural barriers that have long shut out talented people of color and offering support and inclusion once they arrive.”

A key Pillar of the student experience at NYU Stern’s Undergraduate College is Social Impact, the notion that business can be used to create a positive impact. One way students put this Pillar into action is through the production of The Call For Corporate Action: NYU Stern Student Voices, a magazine of essays written by first-year Stern undergrads that addresses issues facing society where businesses are in a unique position to make change. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of The Call. 

Excerpt from Poets & Quants-- "The course is one of four required social impact courses in the undergraduate curriculum at Stern. Stern students are required to take a social impact-focused course each year. Social impact has been baked into the Stern curriculum since 1998 when the school first introduced social impact into undergraduate education. 'It’s the thoughtful spine that runs through the whole undergraduate business education,' Younger says of the required social impact curriculum."
 "[Farm] continued, 'Being an author for The Call gave my ideas a voice. Being an editor for The Call exposed me to issues I had never heard of before and has shown me hundreds of different ways to solve problems. This exercise is incredibly valuable to any business student because solving problems is at the core of what business is. Our authors’ creativity has inspired me to continue searching for ways to improve business’s impact on society well beyond my undergraduate career.'”

While the coronavirus pandemic made it easy to avoid some of the typical MBA distractions, I was still intentional about learning all I could in class, making a positive impact on the Stern community, and offering coaching as a teaching fellow to other Master’s and MBA students. In the moment, I often felt like I could have done more. But looking back, I’m happy with how my MBA journey has gone and that’s due in no small part to making sure I know what I needed to do to be able to say that I made the most of my time."

In this course, students will look at the range of investment philosophies with the intent of finding not only the core beliefs that animate them, but also the ingredients needed to make them work. Students will look at the historical evidence in support of or working against each philosophy and what they need to bring to the table to succeed with that philosophy. In the process, Professor Aswath Damodaran hopes that students will find an investment philosophy that best fits them, given their individual strengths and weaknesses.

Fintech is divided into six sections focused on key fintech areas: innovation, technology, incumbents vs. startups, valuation, risk, and implications. Each section contains lessons with video lectures, readings, and assessments to facilitate learning. Students will also have the option of attending live video sessions with Professor Kathleen DeRose where additional questions and topics will be addressed.
