Market-Beating Performance: A discussion with Jerome Dodson

Date

I’ve always found managers who value environmental sustainability to be the most successful. - Jerome Dodson

On Tuesday, December 6, NYU Stern’s Center for Sustainable Business welcomed Jerome L. Dodson, founder and president of Parnassus Investments for a talk entitled, “Market-Beating Performance.” The discussion explored the complexities of Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) financial analysis and the role of environmental and social factors in achieving investment performance. Professor Tensie Whelan, founding director of the Center, hosted the discussion.

Dodson provided an overview of the foundation and evolution of the Parnassus Endeavor Fund, an ESG mutual fund with over $20 billion in net assets, and explained why he wanted to create an investment fund that values social and environmental responsibility. Before taking questions from the audience, he shared his insights on the challenges faced by companies to understand the wide-ranging impact of their environmental footprint while balancing the need to produce financial gains for investors.
