This dual degree program is a partnership between NYU Stern and the Graduate School of Arts & Science (GSAS) at NYU. Students may complete both degrees over the course of three years, instead of the four years that it would take to complete each degree independently. The first year of the program is spent in the Biology department of the Graduate School of Arts & Science, completing the majority of credits required for the Biology degree. The second and third years are spent completing the MBA at Stern as well as the final credits of the Biology degree.

Program Structure

The MS in Biology/MBA dual degree students spend the first year of the program in the Biology department of the Graduate School of Arts & Science, completing the bulk of the credits required for the MS degree. The second and third years are spent completing the MBA degree at NYU Stern as well as the final credits required for the Biology degree. To view the course sequencing, visit the MBA Academic Advising website.

MS in Biology/MBA students register with either GSAS or NYU Stern depending on where they are taking the majority of their credits in a particular semester.

Admission to the MS in Biology/MBA Program

For the 2025 NYU Stern Dual Degree application, please visit the Dual Degree Application page.

To apply for the MS in Biology/MBA dual degree, candidates must complete a separate application for each program. Students can either apply simultaneously to Stern and GSAS, or they can apply to Stern during their first year in the Biology program. While no additional admissions standards are applied to dual degree applications at either school, students qualify for the dual MS/MBA degree program only upon admission to both schools. Please note that it is possible to be admitted to both programs, only one program or neither program in this process.

MS in Biology/MBA dual degree applicants must use NYU Stern’s dual degree application. They cannot apply using the Consortium application or NYU Stern’s MBA application.

Tuition & Financial Aid

MS in Biology/MBA students pay full tuition at the school through which they are registered each semester. If a student exceeds the maximum number of credits and/or courses permitted per semester by the school in which she/he is registered, the tuition and fees for the additional credits must be paid to that school.

All MS in Biology/MBA applicants are considered for merit-based scholarships. No additional materials are required. Some MS in Biology/MBA students may be admitted early to the dual degree program. These students will be considered for scholarships both in the year they are admitted and the year of enrollment at NYU Stern. Financial aid, including federal and private loans, is awarded through the school at which a student is registered in a given semester. In addition, students may obtain Teaching Fellowship or Graduate Assistantship positions, which offer tuition remission.
