MBA Students

In order to work as a Teaching Fellow, Graduate Fellow, or Grader/Tutor, you must have completed 9 or more credits as a Stern MBA student, have a GPA of at least 3.0, and be enrolled in the semester which you plan to work (with the exception of the summer term). Full-time and Part-time regular employees of NYU are not eligible to hold Teaching Fellow or Graduate Fellow positions. Please note that once your application has been approved by the Teaching Assistance Center, your pay will not be amended due to an increase or decrease in the course enrollment. 

If you are an EMBA student and wish to be a TF or grader, please talk to the EMBA administration prior to applying. 

International students who have a green card or hold an F-1 or J-1 visa are eligible to work. If you hold any other visa, such as an H-1B, you cannot work.
International students that have graduated are not allowed to work.

Selection processes vary by Department, so specific questions about the inital hiring process should be directed to the Department coordinator.

You will receive tuition remission unless: (1) you have 100% of your tuition covered by corporate sponsorship or scholarship, (2) you have exceeded the amount of tuition remission allowed, (3) you are hired for a tutor position, and/or (4) you are hired for a summer position and are not enrolled in summer classes. These 4 exceptions will be paid through payroll in Human Resources, and compensation will be subject to tax withholding.

Compensation for TF/GF positions varies depending on appointment. Payment is also dependent on enrollment, course credit load, and other factors. Please see contract for more details.

Tutor Compensation

Process and Rates 
Graduate student tutors are paid $29/hour. Students will need to review the Wasserman Center for Student Employment instructions to complete an "On-Campus Student Employment Application" and send this to Pauline Braz (pbraz@stern.nyu.edu) in Stern Human Resources. Pauline will then send the student instructions on entering hours worked in order to be paid upon submission of biweekly timesheets. Managers will also need to approve the biweekly timesheets in Workday.


Grader Compensation

Process and Rates  
Graduate and PhD Student Grader $29/hour. (Graders assist professors with grading at a minimum of three major assignments per student, not to exceed one hour per student per course.) Your employment is at will, which means that you or NYU can terminate your employment at any time, with or without cause. NYU can also withdraw or rescind this offer at any time prior to the commencement of work without restriction.
If your compensation is processed as tuition remission, Financial Aid will simply reduce the amount of your loans, or you will receive a reimbursement check from the Bursar's Office. Contact Financial Aid at fin-aid@stern.nyu.edu for more information.
Yes. However, a student may not exceed 20 hours of work per week during the semester.
Students can work up to 35 hours per week during the summer.

You may work up to 3.5 TF positions (35 hours) over the course of Summer I, II, and III terms. 
Jobs are open to Stern May graduates who are exempt from the graduate student union, except for May graduates who are international students. May graduates may not continue past August 31st.

No. Position and compensation are based on enrollment and course credit load.
No. Students may not make independent arrangements for additional compensation to tutor students in the class to which they are assigned as a TF. Petitions for exceptions to this policy must be accompanied by the following, submitted in writing by the instructor: (1) A complete description of the TF's responsibilities (2) A guarantee that the TF will not be engaged in any interpretive assessment of student work.
