When Nidhi Kathuria, then a vice-president at the Royal Bank of Scotland in New Delhi, planned out her future, enhancing her technical and business skill set was at the top of her to-do list. But she didn’t want to take what she describes as the “clichéd MBA route.” Rather, “I was innovative in my approach to transforming myself to gear up for the next phase of my career,” she explained. Her choice: NYU Stern’s Master’s in Business Analytics program.
 

A marathoner and skier in his off-hours, John, the director of people analytics at AOL, brings that much energy and more to his intellectual and professional pursuits. After a career start in aerospace engineering, including a stint at NASA’s Langley Research Center and eight years as a consultant for PTC, a manufacturing solutions firm, he jumped into data analytics with both feet. He explains, “I found that I missed my roots in using science and mathematics to solve difficult problems.

The ROI for Sandra’s MSRM degree was immediate and obvious. Within two years of graduating, she secured two jobs, both of them, she says, because of her advanced training in risk management: “That’s what got me to the table.”
 

Steve was already enrolled in the Stern MSRM program when he was interviewing for his current position as vice president for risk management analytics in the institutional sales division of MSCI Inc. You could say that the ability to drill even deeper into analytics has been the driving ambition of Nilanjan’s professional life. At university in India, he recalls, and later as a consultant for a chemical company, he first became aware of the “strength of applied statistics” and their potential for improving industrial and business processes. But his passion for analytics really emerged when he consulted for major retailers and was awestruck by the billions of data generated daily.
