J.P. Eggers Appointed Interim Dean of NYU Stern

Professor J.P. Eggers

Beginning July 1, 2024, Professor J.P. Eggers will take on the role of Interim Dean of NYU Stern, an appointment made by NYU President Linda Mills. A member of Stern’s faculty for more than 15 years, Eggers holds the Catherine and Peter Kellner Professor of Entrepreneurship chair and has been serving as Stern’s Vice Dean for MBA and Graduate Programs since 2018.

Eggers epitomizes what it means to lead with both IQ + EQ, a leadership philosophy that is valued by students, faculty, and alumni alike. Equal parts strategist and ideator, Eggers is known for being a voice of reason and leading with a unique combination of wit, wisdom, and warmth. In every interpersonal interaction, from large board meetings to one-on-ones with students, Eggers brings presence and humility, and immediately creates an environment of trust.

When it comes to pioneering new educational models that meet student, as well as industry demand, Eggers hit the ground running from his very first days as Vice Dean. As the founding academic director of Stern’s Andre Koo Technology and Entrepreneurship MBA Program, he created a new type of MBA that was lauded by the tech industry, has generated an uptick in applications every year since inception, and has achieved gender parity in student enrollment multiple years counting. Eggers also helped introduce the next level of flexibility in the Langone Part-time MBA Program with the new Online Modular Option, a hybrid choice that garnered immediate appeal among the program’s working professional students. For full-time MBA students, many of the initiatives that he has championed focus on expanding the range of career options available to Stern MBA graduates. SternWorks, initially launched during the pandemic, now serves a dual mission to create student internships and bring MBA talent to small businesses across an array of industries; today, it endures as a hallmark of the MBA experience. Stern’s new Executive in Residence and Alumni in Residence programs build connections among alumni, industry, and current students that explicitly complement the work of the Careers team. Academically, Eggers introduced two relevant new specializations to the MBA curriculum: Healthcare and Tech Product Management. And the list of innovations goes on.

Eggers’ influence within the Stern community extends well beyond his programmatic accomplishments. In fact, his knack for rapidly building camaraderie has distinguished him as a personal champion of Stern’s collaborative culture. Many of the innovative new events introduced in recent years—MBA2 Welcome Back, Community Dinners, and Langone Table—specifically seek to foster a culture of trust and a spirit of togetherness.

With the kick-off of the 2024–2025 academic year, Eggers looks forward to connecting with alumni on campus and around the world.
