On Friday, April 28, NYU Stern's Volatility & Risk Institute presented its Fourth Annual Conference, titled, “Managing Compound Risks in a Polycrisis World.” Professor Robert Engle and Professor Richard Berner, Co-Directors of the Institute, hosted the event. 

On Tuesday, April 25, the NYU Department of Accounting and The Vincent C. Ross Institute of Accounting Research hosted Sherron Watkins, Enron whistleblower, for a fireside chat on the "Leadership Lessons from the Enron Scandal and the Importance of Whistleblowing" followed by a moderated Q&A with the audience. The discussion was moderated by Professor Amal Shehata.

This year's theme is AI and fintech, including both the light and dark sides of automation. For example, we will have a speaker on Deep Fakes, an academic panel on post-FTX crypto governance, "meme-ifcation" of investing, etc.

On Monday, April 17, NYU Stern’s Business and Society Program (BSP) hosted the 2023 Ashok C. Sani Distinguished Scholar-In-Residence Lecture, delivered by Tom Szaky, CEO of TerraCycle, and moderated by Batia Wiesenfeld, Director of the Business & Society Program. This year's talk was entitled, "Eliminating the Idea of Waste: The TerraCycle Story of Purposeful Capitalism to Help Make Our World More Circular."

This year’s SWIB Conference will be about Allyship! We’ll be taking a 360 view of the topic and discussing not only how women need allies, but also how women can be allies. We intend to foster conversations with two goals in mind – educate and actualize.

On Monday, March 27, NYU Stern's Center for Global Economy and Business, Volatility and Risk Institute, and Center for Sustainable Business co-hosted a Public Talk and Q&A with Laurence Boone, French Minister of State for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

Rama Akkiraju is the Vice President for Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning for IT at Nvidia. She is a former IBM Fellow who worked on the Watson artificial intelligence project, and has been honored as a "Top 20 Women" in AI by Forbes, and "A-Team for AI" by Fortune Magazine. Rama and Professor Melissa Schilling will discuss the ways in which the adoption and performance of artificial intelligence are accelerating right now, and the unique role that Nvidia is positioned to play.

On Friday, February 24, 2023, the Chen Institute for Global Real Estate Finance hosted "InnovateESG 2023: Advancing Real Estate’s Environmental, Social, and Governance Missions Through PropTech and Innovation." Anthony Malkin, Chairman, President, and CEO of Empire State Realty Trust, joined the forum as keynote speaker.

The theme of the 18th Annual Conference will be Inflation & Valuation, the onset of new risks in alternative investing and will explore the impact of new risks: inflation, rising interest rates, geopolitical turmoil and climate contribution to the surge in volatility and slowdown in alternative investing with 6 different panels, industry speakers and a networking lunch and mixer.

This will be the 13th annual Symposium planned in collaboration between NYU’s Stern School of Business, the School of Law, and the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, attracting hundreds of students, academics, and professionals working across the public, private and social sectors.
