Eun-Ju Ryu

Executive MBA, Class of August 2014

Eun-Ju Ryu has spent her career advancing through the marketing ranks at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, starting in Korea and moving to New York in 2006 to take on a Regional Director Role. Her education in clinical pharmacy gave her the skills to also serve in clinical research,  meaning she knows the pharmaceutical industry from the inside out. But when she took on her current position as Global Marketing Director, Eun-Ju realized the time was right to gain more skills in general management. She explains, “Although I’ve been working for 20 years in the same industry and receive on-the-job training for various functions, I wanted an MBA to enhance and broaden my capabilities to help my career advancement into general management positions.”

Once Eun-Ju set her sights on the NYU Stern Executive MBA program, she faced the challenge of the 2008 recession and a reduction in financial support from her company. Her application was postponed twice! With perseverance, Eun-Ju joined the program in 2012 and has enjoyed learning from her classmates to expand her knowledge of other industries and from the Finance faculty that help to sharpen her skills for business development and opportunity valuation. Eun-Ju oversees the marketing for various Pfizer products globally, so Stern’s global focus provides the framework she needs to create successful campaigns in different regions. “The Global Study Tours connect theory and the real world,” says Eun-Ju, “and also provide the opportunity to expand our global network.”
