Why did you decide to pursue the focused one-year MBA program?
I wanted to pursue a focused one-year MBA to gain expertise and a network in the industry I wanted to stay in. I had the technical experience but felt I lacked the business background needed to provide as much value as I could. The one-year MBA's rigorous schedule and more focused programming seemed to fit perfectly with what I was looking for in a graduate degree.
How did you find a sense of community and support within Stern?
It is easy to find community in the Stern Tech MBA, as the environment allows you to closely get to know your cohort of about 50 students. Many in the cohort, myself included, are moving to NYC for the program, creating a great group of friends I can count on through both good times and bad. There are also a ton of events hosted by clubs and NYU as a whole that let you meet people outside of your cohort and classes.
What has been your favorite class at Stern?
My favorite class so far has been Conflicts, Collaboration, and Negotiations with Steven Blader. It has highlighted common mistakes I've made in life and my career through actual negotiations with classmates. This hands-on approach has helped me truly understand the course content, allowing me to go into any negotiation equipped with the tools to represent myself effectively.
What advice do you have for prospective students?
Prioritize your energy and health. There will be countless opportunities at Stern, and you cannot possibly say yes to all of them without risking burnout. Learning how to say no to things that are less important will be extremely valuable for getting the most out of your time.
How has Stern’s location in NYC impacted your experience?
Living in NYC is amazing as it allows you to experience so many new things. Spending time with classmates takes you to a ton of different places in the city, and Stern student clubs offer tailored events based on your interests, providing even more opportunities to interact with the vibrant culture around you.
