Undergraduate student Jessica Wang (BS '21) in-depth Q&A interview: "2021 Best & Brightest Business Major: Jessica Wang, New York University (Stern)."

Poets and Quants logo
Excerpt from Poets & Quants--"I’m most proud of my time serving as the Co-President and Director of Conference for the Undergraduate Stern Women in Business (USWIB). Coming into a male-dominated environment, I sought out a community of supportive and empowering women, and USWIB became the most rewarding experience of my time at NYU. Over the years, I’ve been able to serve as a mentor for more than 30 female students, lead a team that coordinated a conference for 300 attendees, and help create a new initiative of diversity, equity, and inclusion dialogues to spread the word about topics such as race, gender, and intersectionality. Giving back to the Stern community through USWIB has been the highlight of my college career."

Professor Steven Blader interview, highlighting Stern's "Negotiation Strategies: Optimizing Outcomes through Collaboration and Conflict Resolution" course: "Executive Education Courses in Negotiation."

Executive Courses Logo
Excerpt from Executive Courses --"It’s a similar story over at NYU Stern, where Blader has found the key to teaching negotiation is to challenge participants’ preconceived notions, which can run deep in their implicit beliefs.

“'The most effective way to surface and challenge these notions is to create in-class experiences,' he says."

"His next step is to get students to critically reflect on their habitual mindsets and to realize how unproductive and dysfunctional these default tendencies can be, according to Blader. 'Once this process has unfolded, students are much more likely to understand and master new approaches and tactics,' he says."

NYU Shanghai - NYU Stern MS in Quantitative Finance alumnus Zijie Sheng is profiled, highlighting the benefits of studying in NYC and Shanghai, the technical skills gained through the program, and employment support: "Meet The Masters of Finance."

Poets and Quants logo
Excerpt from Poets & Quants--"The MSQF program offered jointly by NYU Shanghai and NYU Stern offered a chance to study in New York City and build connections with Stern professors, while I was also able to find a job in Shanghai and focus on a career in the Chinese market.  For students majoring in finance, studying at Stern was a valuable opportunity for me to build connections with some of the most famous professors in the field. Also, the degree has helped me get a great job in China, where I live and have a network. Thanks to Shanghai’s well-developed financial industry, there are many exciting opportunities within the local market for finance students, so it was a great city to finish our studies and look for a job."

MS in Business Analytics alumnus Borja Ureta is profiled, highlighting Prof Anindya Ghose, MSBA academic director, the capstone project experience, technical skill development, and the strength of his peer cohort: "Meet The Masters of Business Analytics."

Poets and Quants logo
Excerpt from Poets & Quants--"In short, this program was a complete door opener for me. I obviously wanted to have work experience in analytics and that is one of the reasons I went for the program in the first place. Even though I am very curious and generally embrace change, I have been with the same firm for nearly 11 years. I think that one of the reasons is that they have always been super supportive and have offered me diverse opportunities from a role and international perspective. Six months into the program, I was offered to rotate into the Artificial Intelligence team."

"Since then, I have been focused on data and analytics work, and I have worked on multiple projects on predictive analytics, simulation, econometrics, etc. This has been a game changer for me as I have been able to get significant work experience on most of the things I learned in the program, expand my network in the firm, and carve a different career path that wouldn’t have been possible without the program."

"Anindya Ghose, who is MSBA’s academic director, co-director of the MSBA Capstone Program, professor of information, operations, management sciences, and marketing. His career trajectory, work experience, books and publications are impressive. However, what I would highlight is what a great individual he is and how important he is in bringing the cohort together. From the beginning of the program he built an authentic personal connection with each of the classmates. He was always supportive of any networking plan we did and made sure that we always had something planned that would bring everyone together. In a way, he was one of us at a personal level. Even today, we still speak regularly and stay in touch. He is an outstanding professional, a great professor and an excellent human being."

Fellow of the PhD Excellence Initiative J. Monroe Gamble IV feature, citing Prof & Dean Emeritus Peter Henry, the Initiative's Principal Investigator; research from Prof Paul Wachtel spotlighted: "Why Are There So Few Black Economists at the Fed?"

The New York Times Logo
Excerpt from The New York Times-- “Ms. Daly said Mr. Gamble had made a 'material change' at her Fed. And improving is a priority because, as she puts it, ‘policymaking reflects those around the table.’ Mr. Gamble is now in a predoctoral program at New York University. Mentors who helped him along the way, including Lisa Cook at Michigan State University, Ms. Daly at the Fed and now Peter Blair Henry — a leading Black economist whom he is working with at N.Y.U. — were critical links in the chain that is leading him to a Ph.D. His story suggests that diversifying is a matter of tearing down structural barriers that have long shut out talented people of color and offering support and inclusion once they arrive.”

Being an editor for The Call exposed me to issues I had never heard of before and has shown me hundreds of different ways to solve problems. Current two-year Full-time MBA student Cortne Edmonds’ (MBA ‘21) column: "Speaking of Stern: New Year, New You."

Poets and Quants logo
Excerpt from Poets & Quants-- "Because I started last year with a plan, I was able to stay focused on what I wanted and could easily filter for the things that would help me reach those goals and say yes to them. While the coronavirus pandemic made it easy to avoid some of the typical MBA distractions, I was still intentional about learning all I could in class, making a positive impact on the Stern community, and offering coaching as a teaching fellow to other Master’s and MBA students. In the moment, I often felt like I could have done more. But looking back, I’m happy with how my MBA journey has gone and that’s due in no small part to making sure I know what I needed to do to be able to say that I made the most of my time."
