On Tuesday, April 25, the NYU Department of Accounting and The Vincent C. Ross Institute of Accounting Research hosted Sherron Watkins, Enron whistleblower, for a fireside chat on the "Leadership Lessons from the Enron Scandal and the Importance of Whistleblowing" followed by a moderated Q&A with the audience. The discussion was moderated by Professor Amal Shehata.

Excerpt from Poets & Quants — "Upon arriving at Stern, I was advised to at least try out the consulting recruiting process, led by the MCA (Management Consulting Association). In the best case, I would find a career that was the right fit for me. In the worst case, I would be very prepared for spring recruiting. As it turned out, the best-case scenario quickly came true, and I ended up recruiting successfully for consulting."

This year's theme is AI and fintech, including both the light and dark sides of automation. For example, we will have a speaker on Deep Fakes, an academic panel on post-FTX crypto governance, "meme-ifcation" of investing, etc.

Excerpt from Financial Times -- "Anyway, another huge factor in SVB was the massive size of the uninsured depositor base, coupled with its unhedged bond portfolio. Historically, interest rate risks was seen to have a natural hedge in deposits. When rates rise and the value of assets fall, the low-cost deposit funding becomes more valuable.

"But as a paper by Itamar Drechsler, Alexi Savov, Philipp Schnabl and Olivier Wang points out, the 'deposit franchise is only valuable if depositors remain in the bank.'"

On Monday, April 17, NYU Stern’s Business and Society Program (BSP) hosted the 2023 Ashok C. Sani Distinguished Scholar-In-Residence Lecture, delivered by Tom Szaky, CEO of TerraCycle, and moderated by Batia Wiesenfeld, Director of the Business & Society Program. This year's talk was entitled, "Eliminating the Idea of Waste: The TerraCycle Story of Purposeful Capitalism to Help Make Our World More Circular."

This year’s SWIB Conference will be about Allyship! We’ll be taking a 360 view of the topic and discussing not only how women need allies, but also how women can be allies. We intend to foster conversations with two goals in mind – educate and actualize.

On Tuesday, April 4, join NYU Stern Corporate Relations and the Center for the Future of Management for a fireside chat with José Muñoz, Global President and COO of Hyundai Motor Company and President and CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America. Vice Dean J.P. Eggers will moderate the discussion.

On Monday, March 27, NYU Stern's Center for Global Economy and Business, Volatility and Risk Institute, and Center for Sustainable Business co-hosted a Public Talk and Q&A with Laurence Boone, French Minister of State for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

The theme of this year’s conference will be the Future of Healthcare, with exciting panels focusing on innovations in clinical trials, pricing, and investing. Our keynote speaker is Dave A. Chokshi, MD, MSc, the 43rd Commissioner at the New York City Department of Health who led New York City through the Covid-19 pandemic.

Today, Stern alumnus Andre J.L. Koo (MBA ’94), Chairman of the Chailease Group, Chair of the NYU Stern Executive Board, and member of the NYU Board of Trustees, was selected by NYU as this year’s sole recipient of the Albert Gallatin Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Society. Mr. Koo will be honored at NYU’s Pre-Commencement events in May.

Rama Akkiraju is the Vice President for Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning for IT at Nvidia. She is a former IBM Fellow who worked on the Watson artificial intelligence project, and has been honored as a "Top 20 Women" in AI by Forbes, and "A-Team for AI" by Fortune Magazine. Rama and Professor Melissa Schilling will discuss the ways in which the adoption and performance of artificial intelligence are accelerating right now, and the unique role that Nvidia is positioned to play.
