The Stern Private Equity Club will host its Eighth Annual Stern Private Equity Conference on Friday, March 1, 2013. Themed, “The New Normal in Private Equity,” the conference will provide a forum for industry leaders to discuss the opportunities and risks of today's private equity and venture capital environment. Tepid global growth, regulatory dynamics, political pressure and financial market conditions are posing challenges to fundraising, deal financing and operations. The conference will foster thought-provoking discussions on the issues facing today's private equity and venture capital community.

NYU’s entrepreneurial community—including successful student, faculty and alumni startup founders and venture capital investors—will gather to celebrate innovation and entrepreneurship at the second annual NYU Entrepreneurs Festival.

On Thursday, February 28, 2013, NYU Stern MBA students, alumni and faculty will gather for the NYU Stern Strategy and Operations Club (SOC) Third Annual Strategy Forum, themed “Achieving Strategic Advantage Through Innovation.” Attendees will hear from strategy leaders across a variety of industries, including keynote speaker Mumtaz Ahmed, Chief Strategy Officer of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and a Principal at Deloitte Consulting, and a panel of representatives from strategy and consulting roles across several industries.

Jill Bright, chief administrative officer at Condé Nast, and Mason Salit, wealth market leader at TD Bank, shared perspectives with MBA students on how great leaders succeed as part of NYU Stern's Leadership Development Initiative (LDI).

The MBA Media & Entertainment Conference, jointly hosted by NYU Stern’s Entertainment, Media and Technology Association (EMTA) and Columbia Business School, is focused on providing an educational and informative forum for discussions on the present state and future of media and entertainment.

The NYU Social Innovation Symposium is a collaboration between the Social Enterprise Association at Stern, Bridge at Wagner and LSEA at the Law School. Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose.org, and Jacquelline Fuller, Director of Google Giving at Google.org, will be keynote speakers.

Faculty from top business and law schools convened on February 8 and 9 to present, discuss and debate their work at the ninth annual NYU/Penn Conference on Law and Finance. The event was co-hosted by NYU’s Pollack Center for Law & Business and the University of Pennsylvania’s Institute for Law and Economics, and sponsored by NERA Economic Consulting.

This year’s SWIB conference, themed, "Breaking Boundaries: The New Role of Innovation," will highlight how business is being transformed by values-driven female leaders who combine private sector profitability with creative and strategic leadership. Speakers will explore how women have innovated their careers, from design innovation to business model innovation to innovating for social change. The Conference on Extracting and Understanding the Risk Neutral Probability Density from Options Prices will bring together researchers from NYU Stern and the Federal Reserve Banks of New York and Minneapolis to describe the work they have been doing on extracting the RND from options prices and analyzing the information it contains. Discussants from industry will also share their perspectives on this promising area of research.

On February 4, Kim Schoenholtz, Professor of Management Practice in the Stern Economics Department and Director of the Center for Global Economy and Business, moderated a discussion among three leading economists from Wall Street firms. NYU Stern's Urbanization Project will host industry professionals and faculty that will participate in the Brown Bag Discussion series.

The NASDAQ/OMX Derivatives Research Project Research Day, hosted by the NYU Stern Salomon Center, is an opportunity to learn about some of the most interesting projects that are currently under way among our active Finance research faculty. Along with presentations of research work in progress, this event will feature a panel discussion on the current state of the world economy and financial system.

“What does it take to win?” asked retired US Army General Stanley McChrystal, former commander of the International Security Assistance Force and US Forces in Afghanistan, on Friday evening in NYU Stern’s Paulson Auditorium. Hosted by the TRIUM Global Executive MBA Program, an alliance among NYU Stern, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and HEC School of Management in Paris, General McChrystal spoke candidly about lessons in leadership to more than 200 students and alumni.

On January 11, 2013, NYU Stern hosts its inaugural India Business Forum in Mumbai, India. Stern's world-class faculty, and India's top corporate leaders and policymakers will take part in this full-day event, “India in the 21st Century: From Potential to Progress.”

Distinguished Citi Fellow in Leadership & Ethics Mindy S. Lubber, president and founding board member of Ceres, a nonprofit organization that advocates for sustainable business and investment practices, spoke candidly with MBA and undergraduate students this fall.

As part of NYU Stern’s Block Lunch event series, hosted by Dean Peter Henry, Brown spoke to more than 100 MBA students this week.

The first NYU Start Up Job Expo, hosted by NYU Stern's Berkley Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Office of Career Development, Career Center for Working Professionals and Entrepreneurs Exchange Club, as well as the NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development, the Wasserman Center for Career Development at NYU-Poly, the NYU Entrepreneurs Network and NY Tech Meetup, to be held on Thursday November 29. This event will provide students with a chance to connect with professionals in the entrepreneurial community, such as, ffVentures, Lore, Lot18, Quirky, TargetSpot, Venmo and Yipit.

On November 28, 2012, a team of five NYU Stern MBA students won the first place $2,000 prize in the second annual Cable Interacts Interactive Launch Competition. Kibi Anderson, Ben Colman, Joshua Cohen, Austin Clements and Taj Corinaldi, advised by Professor Alvin Lieberman, competed against teams from Columbia Business School, MIT Sloan, Georgetown McDonough School of Business, Boston University School of Management and Howard University School of Business.

Some 50 academics, practitioners and policymakers gathered at NYU Stern in November for a roundtable discussion on the re-emergence of consulting practices at the major audit firms. Industry experts discussed why the firms’ consulting revenues are increasing and whether the practice poses a conflict of interest.
