Dr. José Manuel Campa on “The Challenges to the EUROpean Economy”
—
As a former senior finance official in Spain and a distinguished academic economist, Dr. Jose Manuel Campa has a unique vantage point from which to view the European economy. On January 26, Dr. Campa discussed the challenges in the euro area with an audience of faculty, students and New York-based finance professionals at an event jointly sponsored by NYU Stern’s Center for Global Economy and Business and Salomon Center.
Dr. Campa argued that fiscal developments alone do not account for the ongoing euro-area policy dilemmas. He analyzed other key challenges, including cross-country differences in competitiveness, imperfections in financial and labor markets, and inadequacies of the region-wide policy decision process.
José Manuel Campa is Professor of Financial Management at IESE Business School and until recently served as the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs in Spain’s Ministry of Economy and Finance.
