Professors Vasant Dhar and Scott Galloway discuss whether humans should entrust their money to machines. Professor Dhar says the answer depends on how long these investments are held for. In high-frequency trading, machines have already taken over. Decisions are numerous and the pace is quick. There is a lot of data to learn from, and machines excel in this environment. Long-term investors, on the other hand, are far more insightful than machines. However, most human investors have done poorly even in long-term investments. So perhaps, the lesson is that the market cannot be beat.
