Email and Technology Set Up

You have two email addresses:
  • Stern Email - used most frequently for your MSRM needs (email, wireless network, grades, etc.)
  • NYU Email - used to access university-wide systems (library, NYU Classes, etc.)
We strongly suggest that you forward your NYU email to your Stern email account as we will be primarily communicating with you through your Stern email account. To edit your email preferences and setup your email forwarding, follow the steps below:
  • Go to https://home.nyu.edu
  • Log in using your NetID and password you created earlier.
  • Click on ‘Preferences’ on the top right hand corner
  • Under ‘Your Email’, scroll down to ‘Mail forwarding’ and click on ‘edit’. This will take you to your NYU Gmail account.
  • Click on the gear icon at the right hand side and then click “Settings.”
  • Click on the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab and then add your Stern email (or a personal address that you check regularly)
Please note that both NYU and Stern passwords expire annually. Make sure to change the passwords when you receive a notice for NYU or Stern IT. If you do not change your password before the expiration date, you will not be able to access your Stern email or other web applications until the password is changed. 
You cannot login to your NYU Stern email account via the standard Gmail route (gmail.com). In order to login to Stern email you can do one of the following: We strongly suggest that you forward emails from your Stern account to wherever you will check it most, as we will be primarily communicating with you through your Stern email address. To set up email forwarding, please follow the steps below:
  • After logging in to your Stern gmail account, click on the gear icon at the right hand side and then choose “Settings.”
  • Click on the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab and then add your preferred email. Again, this will be the email address used to contact you by the program administrators and faculty.

Academics and Course Material

NYU Classes is an online course management tool to where students can access course material, send messages, set up group forums, etc. Access to NYU Classes will be limited until we closer approach Module 1. You will be notified by either Jafreen or Manjiree when you receive access to NYU Classes. Please refer to this information upon gaining access. NYU Classes can also be access via the Stern Life Dashboard.

After you gain access to NYU Classes later this spring, once you log in, you will see 2 “courses”. Each future module will be its own tab (Module 1, Module 2, Capstone, etc.) on NYU Classes.

Module 1: Class of 2018
Module 1: Class of 2018 is a course site for all the Pre-Program information and courses in Module 1 in New York City. Here, you will find all the course documents including outlines, reading materials, class slides and assignments. Module and course related announcements will be posted on this site and you should check it regularly.

Strategic Capstone: Class of 2018
(NOTE: You will not have access to this until late March/early April). This site will be used throughout the year for Capstone work. We will discuss it in detail during the first module.

 
All pre-readings for MSRM modules are available only in digital format and you can access them online. Cases and articles will be available on NYU Classes under “Course Materials” and e-books will be available through Kindle on Amazon.com. If you encounter any problems accessing your readings on NYU Classes please contact Jafreen Uddin at juddin@stern.nyu.edu.

Accessing your Kindle Ebooks

You will receive your textbooks in e-book Kindle format directly from Amazon. You will receive an email with an individualized link for downloading your new e-books. You can access these books with any electronic device (kindle, PC, Mac) by doing the following:

On a tablet or mobile device:
  1. Create an amazon.com account (if you do not have one already). NOTE: you must create an amazon.com account to receive your e-books.
  2. Download the Kindle App.
  3. Once you have created an Amazon account and downloaded the Kindle app to your electronic device, open the e-mail message you received about your gift and click the Get your Kindle Book Gift Now button. Your web browser will launch and automatically take you to your gift on Amazon.com.
  4. Click the Accept Kindle Gift button and log into your Amazon.com account if prompted. You may also be prompted to enter a billing address to verify your location only (there is no charge associated with accepting a Kindle book gift).

On a PC or Mac:
  1. Login to amazon.com
  2. Click on “Accept my Gift” on the top right hand side of the page.
Your EBook is available on your Kindle cloud storage and can be read on various devices (iPad, Kindle, PC/mac). Please contact Jafreen Uddin at juddin@stern.nyu.edu if you have any problems opening your EBook gifts.

NOTE: Digital copyright permissions vary according to publisher and country of purchase. Thus, sometimes international students encounter trouble downloading their e-books. Please follow the directions below to make sure your account can accept your e-books:
  1. Hover over "Hello (Name), Your Account"
  2. Under "Your Library", click on "Manage Content & Devices"
  3. On the right, click on the "Settings" tab
  4. Under "Country Settings", click "Change" and select the United States for your country settings
AIS is a Stern system where you can login to check grades, update biographical information, view course-faculty evaluations and more. AIS can be accessed through the Stern Life Dashboard.
To access NYU libraries, please go to the ‘NYU Library’ widget on your Stern Life Dashboard.

You can search the catalog, renew or recall books, and reserve a book online.

Virtual Business Library (VBL) provides access to electronic business resources and services available through the Bobst library. To access the Virtual Business Library and other online library resources, you will login using your NYU account login information (not Stern).

During the MSRM program, you will be participating in 5 on-site modules over the span of 12 months. Outside of the in-class weeks, distance learning will play a large part in your academic experience. We have compiled a list of suggested software and technology to help facilitate distance learning, collaboration and communication with your group mates, fellow cohort and the overall MSRM community.

MSRM NYU Classes logoNYU Classes is a full-featured system supporting technology-enabled teaching, learning, research and collaboration for education. NYU Classes will be your online portal for all the module logistics and course materials. It is also used as a communication tool, allowing for discussions on course topics, case studies and exchange between administrators and faculty.

MSRM Google DriveGoogle Drive is a free, Web-based word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, form and data storage service offered by NYU Stern via Google. Google Docs allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users. Google docs can be access through Stern Life.

MSRM Skype logoSkype is a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet. Calls to other users within the Skype service is free, while calls to both traditional landline and mobile phones can be made for a fee using a debit user account system Skype has also become popular for its additional features which include instant messaging, file transfer and video conferencing.

MSRM Dropbox logoDropbox is a web-based file hosting service operated by Dropbox, Inc that uses cloud computing to enable users to store and share files and folders with others across the Internet using file synchronization. There are both free and paid services, each with varying options. The free service provides 2 GB of free online storage.

MSRM Apps@SternApps@Stern provides software licensed by the university. This includes Crystal Ball, Dreamweaver, Minitab, Matlab, Precision Tree, and several other programs. You can log into Apps@Stern with your Stern credentials.

Traveling for Modules

For the in-class sessions of Modules 1, 3, and 5, we're looking forward to hosting you at NYU Stern in New York City! For specific program dates, please refer to our program scheduleThe NYU Stern campus is located in the heart of Greenwich Village, adjacent to Washington Square Park. There are many convenient ways to reach campus and navigate your way around Manhattan. 

For travel to New York:
  • Closest airports: the closests airports to NYU Stern are John F. Kennedy (JFK), La Guardia (LGA), and Newark (EWR)
  • Visa: Non-US citizens are responsible for obtaining the necessary visa documentation for entry into the United States. For directions on pursuing an F-1 student visa, please refer to all the details in this visa guide and fill out this I-20 form. It is important to start the visa process as early as possible, since some consulates take longer than others to complete the process. For any questions, please email newinternationalstudents@nyu.edu and copy Jafreen Uddin (juddin@stern.nyu.edu) on your email. 


 
The in-class session of Module 2 will be held at the Amsterdam Institute of Finance in Amsterdam, Netherlands and the in-class session of Module 4 will be held at NYU Abu Dhabi. For specific program dates, please refer to our program schedule.
