Leon Metzger
Biography
An expert witness with more than 30 years of business, academic, reporting, and testifying experience with hedge-fund-industry practices, and consultant, arbitrator, mediator, and authority on asset management and operational controls, Leon M. Metzger was a senior executive at a hedge-fund-management firm for 15 years. Federal Judge Berle M. Schiller wrote, “The Court finds more persuasive the testimony by [Metzger and] believes that Metzger has greater expertise on hedge funds.” Federal Judge Eric G. Bruggink recorded, “We have no reservations about [Metzger’s] qualifications to speak about the management of hedge funds.” Administrative Law Judge Jason S. Patil opined, “[Metzger’s] context of general hedge fund practice is important to my conclusion…” Metzger has testified before Congress about capital markets, hedge funds, and operational controls, and has appeared as an expert on valuations and hedge funds before various government agencies. Since 2004, he has taught graduate-level multi-disciplinary courses that provide an overview of the challenges of launching and operating hedge funds, at a number of schools including: the graduate business schools of NYU, Wharton, Tel Aviv, and Yale; Yale Law School; and the engineering schools of Columbia and Cornell. He was Associate Editor of Judaism and Economics (Oxford University Press, 2010). The New York Times has profiled his hedge-funds course. He holds an MBA from Harvard and a BS in economics from Wharton
