Biography

Mr. Schroeder has over 45 years of experience in investing, auditing and financial reporting. In his current role as adjunct professor at the NYU Stern School of Business, he teaches financial accounting and reporting. He is a former member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), which is responsible for setting US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). During his ten years at the FASB, it issued over 200 standards, including several that had significant impacts on accounting for revenue, leases and credit losses; the latter referred to as the “current expected credit losses” accounting model (commonly referred to as CECL).

Before joining the FASB, Mr. Schroeder was a partner and senior portfolio manager at Carlson Capital, responsible for managing long and short equity positions in the financial services industry, including both public and private companies. He also spent several years as a senior equity analyst with Schroder & Company and KBW, and served as CFO of Nafinsa Securities, Nafinsa Real Estate and Nafinsa Holdings (a subsidiary of Nacional Financiera, the primary development bank for the government of Mexico). Prior to those roles, Mr. Schroeder spent 13 years, including three years as a partner, with Ernst & Young in its New York Financial Services and National offices performing various technical accounting, consulting and auditing roles.

Mr. Schroeder is a former member of the FASB’s Emerging Issues Task Force, as well as the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board’s Standing Advisory Group and its Investor Advisory Group. Mr. Schroeder has been an adjunct faculty instructor at the University of Connecticut School of Business, Western Connecticut State University’s Ancell School of Business and Rutgers Business School. He has earned the designation of a certified public accountant.
